Description
DESIGN DESCRIPTION: The design beautifully depicts the Tree of Life, inspired by Mediterranean and Middle Eastern artistic traditions, especially Islamic art and textile designs. The style echoes the Arts and Crafts movement designs popularised by William Morris in the late 19th century, influenced by Middle Eastern patterns. This blend offers a modern twist on classic motifs, showcasing rich cross-cultural heritage.
The panel is rectangular with an off-white background that highlights its naturalistic design. The central motif is a traditional Chinar tree, with its branches, leaves, and curling vines filling the entire space in a symmetrical and well-balanced layout. The branches spread from the bottom centre upwards and outwards, framed by a simple, double-lined brown border.
MATERIAL : Dusoot Cotton
COLOUR : Brown-bordered off-white background with green leaves, brown branches, and yellow-gold accents defining the design.
EMBROIDERY THREAD: Woollen yarn
EMBROIDERY TECHNIQUE : A traditional hand embroidery technique using a hook-like tool called "Aurah" to create a series of looped stitches, resulting in a beautiful, chain-like pattern on the fabric.

HISTORY-INSPIRED CRAFT
CHAINSTITCH
The Kashmir Valley—a place where different cultures and ideas have come together along the Silk Route—has kept the art of chain stitch alive for over 700 years, with every pull of the yarn forming a chain that remains forever anchored to Kashmir's heritage. The chain stitch rug, locally known as Jalakdozi, has origins that date back more than 2,000 years, making it one of the oldest crafts.
These rugs evoke the nostalgia of a bygone era, with around 200,000 stitches in each one, all lovingly handmade by skilled Kashmiri artisans. These treasures, though influenced by other cultures, have been cherished and adapted to hold Kashmir’s culture and beauty, as if they were always a part of Kashmir’s own heritage.
